Apple Signs was founded in 1979 by James Applegate in an abandoned gas station in Annapolis, Maryland. Business consisted mostly of boat transom lettering, small hand lettered and sandblasted signs, and truck graphics. A steady clientele quickly followed and in 1982 Jim partnered with the late Mike Kumer, a skilled and colorful local sign artist. In 1986, Jim split agreeably with Mike and continued Apple Signs at a new location on Bestgate Road.

Rewarding, steady and profitable business -- coupled with a skilled and dedicated staff --continued to fuel growth. So Apple Signs expanded the Bestgate Road facility to 10,000 square feet and added a complete metal shop and heated spray booth. After 16 years at that location, more growth and space demands necessitated the search for more suitable space.

On June 1st of 2002, Apple Signs purchased a 23,000 square foot building on two wooded acres in nearby Millersville. This new facility was perfectly suited for the growing business as a convenient and comfortable place to work for years to come.
